This 80,000 inhabitants’ town, is one of the first 7 villages founded by the Spanish conquistadors and you will feel like traveling back to the 18th century, with Baroque church towers, wrought iron gates, cobbled streets and tiled rooftops. Many of the buildings retain their traditional character and are painted in lovely pastel shades. The surrounding area was one of the main centers of both sugar production and slavery and was frequented by smugglers until the late 1700s. Enjoy a night stroll on your own around the cobbled stone streets full of bars, restaurants and live music.
